(BYMS) is a pioneer professional mountaineering school in Pakistan. Formerly it was run with the cooperation of an international organization ILM institute USA, now it is run by renowned personality Mr. Muhammad Iqbal Managing Director of Baltistan Tours and Karakoram Lodge Khaplu.

Supervised by a team of renowned mountaineering instructors, with great potential and good mountaineering experiences, Balti Yul Mountaineering School Khaplu has mountaineers oriented courses in order to meet the need of beginners and advanced mountaineers accordingly.

It is the first training institute in the region which has commenced exclusive mountaineering programs for mountaineers. It has been providing various mountaineering training courses and expeditions exclusively for locals since its inception.

We offer a variety of mountaineering training programs for individuals, groups and especially we cordially welcome young mountaineers.

Why a Mountaineering School?

Baltistan is a place where people struggle to survive year after year while living in some of the most beautiful mountains in the world. This area has great economic potential for mountain tourism but few other industries. Many foreign companies bring tourist into the area but the local people get little benefit from the tourism. The reason is that the local are traditionally subsistence farmers and have no professional training in tourism. For this reason the usually are only the porters for the foreigners how come to visit.

If these local man had the opportunities to develop the necessary skills and education for working in the tourism industry they would have a hope for a better life for their families so the goal of Balti Yul Mountaineering School is to give these local people the opportunity that they want but cannot afford. We will setup a school specifically designed to train the local people to work in the tourism industry. We want to give these people a hope for a better life for their children.

The Balti Yul Mountaineering School is cooperative project between the Intentional Mountain Leadership Institute USA and Baltistan Tours Pakistan. IMLI is providing the tools and resources to assist the school to get of the ground. Baltistan Tours is committed to conducting the long term operation of the school. Our hope is that together we can establish a place where young people can get the skills they need to achieve a better future for themselves and their families.

Our Courses

We teach a class schedule with a great deal of flexibility in order to find the best balance in the local setting. Our teaching is based on international standards and derived from the world best resources on mountaineering.

What Our Students Do:

• English Class for oral learners.
• Leadership skills. (One day)
• Wilderness First Aid. (One day)
• Basic Rock Climbing. (Three days)
• Expedation Cooking. (One day)
• Basic Ice Climbing and Glacier Travel and rescue. (Seven days)

Once all of the basic courses are compeleted the students can then join our training expedition that we will do each stepember. Upon completion of each course the are awarded certificates of completion.
