Once an important staging post on the Silk Road and later a garrison for British troops, Chitral has a long and extremely colorful history. Today, this thriving regional capital is notable as the starting point for exploration of the rarely-visited Hindu Kush and Hindu Raj ranges, which are a trekker’s delight with the landscapes of upland, isolated villages, vivid turquoise lakes and rugged snow-capped peaks. Boroghil trip can truly be considered as one of the worlds great treks, following good trails across the Shah Jinali Pass and then the Karumbar Pass (4300m.) to reach the remote district of Ishkuman, close against the Afghan border. As a breathtaking finale, our route then crosses the Chilinji Pass (5290m.) into northern Hunza. This is a simply unforgettable taste of Pakistan’s mountainous northwest.
